Comparison of DirecTV 1280x1080i to 1920x1080i

Here is the HDNet resolution wedge at 1920x1080, recorded 8/9/05. Also, from Brighthouse/Former Time Warner Cable system in Tampa Florida at 1920x1080i recorded via ieee 1394 from a SA3250HD at about 16-17Mb/s

DirecTVBrighthouse Cable

Here is the HDNet resolution wedge at 1280x1080 (scaled to preserve aspect ratio), recorded 11/4/04. Normally, your set top box would do this scaling and the algorithm may be significantly different, but this should be a reasonable approximation of what you would see.

Here is the 1280 resolution wedge unscaled.

Here is the 1920 resolution wedge resampled at 1280 (approximating what you would see on a 1280x720 display.

Lastly, an attempt to capture some motion artifacts in the test patterns (there isn't much motion!). I wasn't sure if anything would show up, but you be the judge. The red arrow is moving up and down, and we are in the middle of the seconds changing.

The average bitrate during the 1280 broadcast was 13.9mb/s. The average bitrate during the 1920 broadcast was 12.5mb/s.
